Requirement for instruction
Applicants for a permit to purchase a handgun (PPH) or firearms purchaser identification cards (FPICs) will be required to have completed a firearms safety course within four years prior to making their application. However, this is a one-time requirement. You will not be required to provide documentation or retake the safety course when renewing your permit. This is under Bill A4370.
Ban on some firearms
The purchase of certain firearms including 0.50 caliber firearms is banned under Bill S2905. This however will not affect antique firearm collectors. It also does not affect those who had already purchased qualifying firearms prior to the change of the law.
New residents will be required to register their guns
If you move to New Jersey with your firearms, you will be required to register them and seek a FIPC under Bill S1204. You must do this within 60 days of becoming a resident of the state and having brought a firearm into the state with you.

The Attorney General is allowed under bill A1765 to bring action against sellers or manufacturers of firearms if the Attorney General believes that they have a case related to public nuisance.
