NJ.com: Krenar Camili’s Client Released in High-Profile Gambling Investigation Involving Prospect Park Councilman

A recent NJ.com report highlights a major development in a sweeping racketeering case: criminal defense attorney Krenar Camili successfully secured the release of his client, Roberto Aliano, while another defendant—Prospect Park Councilman Anand Shah—was ordered to remain in custody.

The investigation, which has resulted in charges against several individuals, centers on an alleged illegal gambling ring. Authorities allege the operation involved high-stakes poker games, online sports betting platforms, money laundering through local businesses, and illegal financial transactions across multiple jurisdictions.

According to NJ.com, Councilman Anand Shah is accused of being a central figure in the illegal operation. Prosecutors claim Shah managed and hosted gambling events from 2016 through 2024, laundered over $1 million, and attempted to use his political influence to benefit co-defendants. The charges against him include racketeering, money laundering, and conspiracy. Bail for Shah was denied and he will be held in jail pending trial.

Camili, who represents Roberto Aliano, a co-defendant in the case, successfully argued for his client’s pretrial release following a detention hearing. In a statement to NJ Advance Media, Camili said:

“I’m glad that the judge let Roberto out of prison today and we look forward to defending him moving forward.”

Camili’s early success underscores the importance of individualized defense strategies in large cases, where charges can vary widely in scope and severity among co-defendants.

As legal proceedings move forward, Camili will continue to represent Aliano, who now remains free pending trial.
